EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS
Chuck’s Advice for Earthquakes
Since we lived through a big one!

Having experienced the 1995 Kobe Earthquake, a lot of people (especially in the Tokyo area!) ask me for advice on how to best prepare for such a situation. Here is what I tell them:
1. A well-stocked pantry!
We did pretty well in the aftermath of the big Kobe quake because we had a well-stocked pantry! We had a lot of what we always eat and it supplied us and a large group of homeless friends for a couple of weeks – which is how long it took to get anything locally!
So, keep yourself well-stocked with what you can and do eat easily now.
2. An Emergency Kit
A complete emergency Backpack for your foyer and the trunk of your car.
3. A few helpful extras
We have also rounded up a few things that we feel could really help out, like braces to keep the cabinets from falling or a special flashlight/cell phone charger that requires no batteries.
Chuck's Recommended List
If you’re not sure where to start, we have created a list of the things we think would be good to have. I suggest “snacks and drinks” as they will be comforting, easy to carry, and easy to consume and replace on a regular basis. You could call it a “lunch box items” list - protein bars, juice boxes, etc.
